"The Call to Action"
- Miriam, Brooklyn, New York

I knew I couldn't continue living with the fear of not knowing my HIV status, so I went to a local clinic to get tested. An HIV counselor met with me to discuss my past sexual partners. She wanted to know why I was testing for the HIV virus, which I explained. Later on a nurse came in and began to explain that blood would be drawn to perform the HIV test and I would be given a confidential tracking number. The actual blood withdrawal was virtually painless and over within minutes. The nurse told me to come back in a week to get the results. That was the longest week of my entire life. It was finally time for me to get my results. I had to come into the clinic for my results, which they were not allowed to give over the phone, so I came back to the clinic and got my results from the HIV counselor, and the results were negative. I began to cry, relieved to know what my status was. Don't wait for what might be. GET TESTED and be safe.

"My Voice "
- Sonia, Bronx, New York

I once trusted, I once believed
Bad things couldn't happen to me,
Here I stand with a disease,
Yes my friends, I have HIV!
I too believed it couldn't happen to me,
I guess this life was just meant to be,
I've learned I have choices
And a lot of years to see,

And now you can see,
That I'm a young woman
LIVING with HIV.
